Architect led, Leanhaus collaborates with clients and select builders to deliver high quality with cost certainty

building science optimised design

Imagine living in a building that keeps you warm and cosy all winter, without running the heater. A home that’s quiet, free of draughts, mould and dust, costs very little to run and reduces your carbon footprint.

Leanhaus strikes the perfect balance between design, quality and cost. We deliver high performance Architecture for less by following lean construction and design principles.

Passive House optimised, Leanhaus provide genuine solutions towards a net zero carbon future

energy efficient

Passive House is the leading standard on energy savings worldwide. Energy savings amount to 90% in comparison with current building standards. We achieve this enormous energy conservation through scientific design optimisation, special energy efficient building elements and ventilation techniques.

healthy

Air pollution indoors can be up to 5x worse than outdoors. Dust, mould, expired air, CO2 and contaminants from cooking all create an indoor environment that contributes to allergies, asthma and sleep disturbance.  Leanhaus homes provide a constant supply of fresh, filtered and preconditioned air that is better quality than outdoor.

comfortable

Comfort in a Leanhaus is perceptibly improved by designing with consideration to air temperatures, surface temperatures, draughts and relative humidity. The home benefits from a relatively constant internal temperature that is well within the human comfort range. A constant supply of fresh air ensures CO2 concentration is within recommended limits.

92% carbon reduction against benchmarks.

Passive Design Optimisation

  • Passive House design optimised in house (Design PH and PHPP)

  • Highly efficient building envelope to minimise unwanted heat gains and losses.

  • Solar Passive Design and Passive Cooling design strategies to maximise comfort.

  • Airtight and thermal bridge free construction.

Limit upfront embodied carbon

  • We greatly reduce or eliminate the requirement for carbon intensive structural concrete and steel

  • Low carbon timber and renewable materials preferred.

  • Materials sourced locally where possible

  • Design to reduce waste through careful selection of products for module size optimisation

Consider whole of life carbon

  • Cradle to grave philosophy considers impacts at each stage of a product's life-cycle.

  • Preference for timeless style and quality materials to ensure long life that will not require premature disposal and renewal.

  • Preference for materials that require minimal on-going maintenance. We avoid applied external finishes that require constant renewal.

  • We prefer composite structures can be readily dismantled and re-used at end of life.

  • Our homes have been certified to show up to 92% carbon reduction against benchmarks.

Reduced Operational Energy Demand and Consumption

  • Highly efficient building envelope requires less energy to maintain a comfortable internal environment.

  • Highly energy efficient services and appliances such as Heat Pump Hot Water and Induction Cooking.

Eliminate Fossil Fuels

  • Electric only services provision.

  • No need for natural gas connections to the home.

Provide on site renewables and storage

  • Solar Power with provision for future household battery storage.

  • Provision for Electric Vehicle charging.

  • On site rainwater storage available

Certify and Disclose against reputable standards

  • Option to certify Lifecycle Carbon costs.

  • Option for Passive House Certification.

Ben Caine
Founder, Architect

Leanhaus was founded by Architect Ben Caine in 2017 after a career in top commercial design, construction and development firms.

Frustrated with the prevailing idea that Architecture should be highly specific, bespoke and complex, Ben saw potential in the practice of performance based design that leveraged building science with lean design and construction.

We believe that by focussing on simplicity, adaptability and affordability, more people can benefit from sustainable and healthy buildings.
